FAQ

How does all this work?

First, we schedule a quick chat so I can learn about you and what you would like for your Origin Story film. We’ll discuss who will be included, the location, and anything else you’d like for your film. If we create your family film in person, it will feel like a relaxed family photoshoot session (minus the awkward posing). We’ll also interview whoever would like to be a narrator in the film (guaranteed to be fun and easy). If we create your story virtually, we’ll have a video call for the interview and you’ll send pictures and videos of your family which will be woven together to create a cohesive story.

What makes Origin Story special?

Origin Story films are shot on high-quality cinema cameras, with professional audio and lighting equipment, to deliver a cinematic film. It’s a fresh modern approach to the legacy film. Incorporating older pictures and videos, your family film tells a heartfelt story that’s organized into life’s most memorable chapters. As your family grows, and your children have children, your Origin Story film will become even more important as it’s treasured and shared for decades and generations to come.

What is the shoot day like?

Typically we capture a “day in the life” of what your family likes to do on a day off. You might go to the park, play games, make lunch together, see friends or relatives, or just hang out at home. I film discreetly for a few hours while you and your family go about your day.

Do I get pictures with my film?

Every Origin Story comes with high-quality pictures that are stills from your film if created in person.

What is the interview part like?

This part is really easy. We set a brief time to ask fun questions about your family’s history, such as how you met your significant other, what your wedding day was like, memories from when your child was born, characteristics about your child, and a message you would like to give them to take into their future. You can include whatever you’d like! The interview is not required but highly encouraged.

How long is an Origin Story film?

An Origin Story film can be as short as 3 minutes or as long as you want, depending on how many segments (“chapters”) are included and how many family members and friends are involved. A typical film is about 10 to 12 minutes. In addition to receiving the film in its entirety, you also receive the individual chapters of the film as their own file.

I’m shy in front of a
camera, is that ok?

Definitely. Everyone feels that way in front of a camera. I create a fun and relaxed filming experience and I promise that everyone will feel comfortable during the shoot. And the interview segment will be edited in such a way that you will sound like a pro.

Does this have to just be about parents and kids?

Your Origin Story can be about anything you’d like! We can create a film about your partner, parents, a friend, a pet, an event, or anything else. The goal is to create a beautiful and cinematic keepsake that can be enjoyed for decades to come.

Where are you
based and are you
willing to travel?

I’m based in Nashville and Southern California and I’m willing to travel to any location that’s best for you.
